Blue Essence (BE) and Riot Points (RP) are the two main types of money in League of Legends. While regular game play and task completion help players earn BE over time, RP is much harder. You can only obtain RP if you buy it with real money.
On the PC, the RP system is used by League of Legends and Team fight Tactics to unlock cosmetic items and give players a way to support the game makers directly. Getting RP is a simple process.
What Are Riot Points (RP)?
RP is the only premium cash in the game. It used to be called Riot Points. Their name comes from the company that made them, but that connection was broken when Riot Games said it was making games other than League of Legends. You can’t get RP by just playing the game. You can only buy them from the game store in the PC app.
In the highest right intersection of the screen, next to your BE amount, you can see how many RP you have.
How to Get Riot Points Fast
As we previously mentioned, purchasing RP from the game shop is one of the best and fastest ways to obtain a sizable amount of RP. What you have to do is:
- Open the app for League of Legends.
- Go to the “Shop” menu on the right side of the page. It looks like three stacks of coins.
- To buy RP, click “Purchase RP.”
- Choose your preferred way of payment from the menu on the left.
- Choose the amount of RP you want to buy from the menu on the right.
- Follow the steps to finish the deal and have the amount of RP you requested in your account immediately.
If you want to purchase RP, these are the prices:
- 650RP: $5 (US)
- 1380RP: $10
- 2800RP: $20
- 5000RP: $35
- 7200RP: $50
- 15000RP: $100
More RP will be given for bigger orders than for a few smaller ones. If you want to purchase a large part of RP all at once, use the highest purchase plan that will cover it to get the most for your money.
You can also get RP by redeeming a gift card. Gift cards are available at some chain stores, including 7-Eleven, Walmart, Target, Gamestop, and more. Depending on the shop, these cards are usually sold for $10 (US), $25 (3500 RP), $50, and $100. You can buy a gift card with money, so you can still buy RP even if you don’t have a PayPal or bank account.
Here is how to redeem a gift card, whether you purchased one or received one as a gift:
- Use the coin icon in the top right corner of the client screen to open the game’s shop.
- To buy RP, click “Purchase RP.”
- Next, choose “Prepaid Cards & Codes.”
- Join the unique code that can be found on the back of the gift card.
- Press “Submit.”
- You will get the amount of RP the card is worth immediately.
Some websites also have RP promotions that involve playing the game or joining different raffles and giveaways. Some websites also make custom tournaments for players to join. If they win, they can get prizes like RP and other things.
Remember that only some websites that say you can get RP for free should be trusted. It’s likely a scam if you don’t have to pay a lot of stretch to get a small amount of RP or fill out a lot of polls. Also, sites that claim or advertise free RP generators need to be fixed, and sites that ask for your account information are after your account for bad reasons.
What Can Be Purchased Using Riot Points?
Using RP, you can purchase champions, different cosmetic items, and benefits outside of the game. However, since RP can only be used to get more champions, and there are other ways to get champions, it doesn’t give you an edge in the game. Putting money in the game’s store won’t give you a better chance of winning.
You can purchase the following items with RP:
- Champion bundles
- Champions
- Additional rune pages
- Skins and chromas
- Crafting material (chests and keys)
- Emotes
- Little Legends eggs (used for Teamfight Tactics)
- Arena skins (for Teamfight Tactics)
- Ward skins
- Summoner icons
- Eternals
- Event passes
- Event-specific items
- Premium clash tickets
- Experience boosts
- Summoner name changes
- Account transfers to another region
The only way you can of your opponents is to buy champions. When you unlock more champions, you have more choices and can counter the champions your opponents choose or plan your strategy around swapping champions with other players in your queue. But it should be told that you should have a chance to obtain all champions just by playing the game, finishing tasks, using the BE currency system, and crafting.
Additional FAQ
Are the webpages offering free RP scames?
Many websites offer users free RP if they do something simple, like make an account or send their email addresses. But these websites are rarely reliable. There are a few real offers for tournaments or raffles on the internet, but they are rare and only sometimes give out a little RP to begin with.
Generally, you should avoid any website that asks for your League of Legends or other platform information (such as your password). During official business, not even Riot workers will ask for that information. No one else is in charge of making sure your account is safe.
Does Riot give out free RP?
Riot Games has given out free RP during major server outages that hit a lot of users at the same time. But this kind of gift hasn’t happened in quite a few years. With server capabilities much better and the risk of big crashes much lower, don’t count on a server break to give you free RP.
Riot workers have been known to give out smaller amounts of RP (usually 10–20) if you send them original art. It has become a custom, and Riot keeps a gallery where new entries can be put up for possible RP prizes. Inspect it out, and if you don’t have enough RP for that cool new skin yet, draw something and share it on social media.
RP Doesn’t Equal LP
Even though getting RP gives you more cosmetic customizations that can make the game more fun overall, it doesn’t give you an advantage over your opponents. If you’re still set on getting RP to buy League of Legends skins or chromas, be cautious of deals that appear too useful to be true.
